(8-12) Sarah D’Alelio takes on Ronda Rousey at Strikeforce Challengers 18

Strikeforce Challengers 18 takes place on August 12th at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV and features a featherweight matchup between Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio and 9th ranked, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. This event will be televised LIVE on Showtime starting at 11pm EST.

D’Alelio (4-1) became the first female fighter to sign a Strikeforce contact under the new Zuffa regime, when she was signed to fight a returning Gina Carano on the June 18th, Strikeforce: “World Grand Prix – Heavyweight Tournament” card. Unfortunately, Carano was forced off of the card due to revoked medical clearance by her doctor. In an attempt to salvage the bout, new Strikeforce matchmaker Sean Shelby contacted Olympic judo bronze medallist, Rousey (2-0) and offered her a contract, however Rousey was already scheduled to compete on a June 17th Hard Knocks card and when that promotion wouldn’t release her from her previously signed contract, Strikeforce scrapped the bout all together. Rousey voiced her displeasure at the Hard Knocks promotion for preventing her the Strikeforce opportunity and then she took it out on her opponent, submitting her in 49 seconds with her signature armbar. Rousey was now able to sign with Strikeforce and the bout with D’Alelio was set to be on the preliminary card of the July 30th, Strikeforce: Fedor vs Henderson card. Thankfully, the bout was then moved again and this time onto the main card of this event. Hopefully now the stars and planets are in alignment and we’ll finally get to see this bout.
