WMMA Today gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

—Weekend Results—

9-8 When Sheila Gaff had to withdraw from her bout with Angela Hayes just days before the event, 7th ranked Aisling “Ais the Bash” Daly (12-2) jumped at the chance to be a part of the first ever female bout in the country of Jordan and she would make the most of it, submitting Hayes (4-6) with an armbar just 20-seconds into the fight at Cage Warriors: “Fight Night 2″.

9-9 Pound-for-pound boxing Queen, Holly “Hottie” Holm (2-0) stopped Jan “Cuddles” Finney (8-10) with a kick to the body at 2:49 of the third round at Fresquez Productions: “Clash In The Cage”. Holm’s next challenge will be against Europe’s premier boxer, French superstar Anne Sophie Mathis at the “World Dominance” event on December 2nd.

9-9 Munah Holland and Michelle “Thundercat” Ould’s fight at Ring of Combat 37 was canceled when Ould re-aggrevated an old back injury during warmups. She was taken to the hospital and later released.

9-10 5th ranked Bantamweight, Alexis Davis (11-4) used her clinch work and ground game to score an impressive second round TKO victory over 3rd ranked Featherweight, Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes (6-2) at Strikeforce: Cincinnati. The victory should put Davis next in line behind Sarah Kaufman for a shot at the Strikeforce Bantamweight Championship, currently held by Miesha Tate.

9-10 In a rematch from 2007, Valérie “Trouble” Létourneau (4-2) would once again get the TKO victory over Tannaya Hantelman (3-4), this time at 2:07 of the first round at Freedom Fight MMA. This bout would also be the first ever female MMA fight held in Ontario, Canada.

9-10 Chelsea “The Italian Princess” Colarelli (6-2) defeated late replacement, Trisha Clark (1-4) via armbar at 1:22 of the second round at C3 Fights. Clark stepped in for Lacey Shuckman who had to withdraw due to illness.

9-11 Jewels: “16th Ring” featured the quarterfinal matchups of the Jewels Featherweight Queen Tournament (106-pounds).

#1 – Naho Sugiyama (5-0) defeated Ayumi Saito (8-6) via Unanimous Decision
#5 – Kikuyo Ishikawa (6-2) defeated #2 – Yasuko Tamada (12-6-3) via Unanimous Decision
#4 – Misaki Takimoto (14-12-4) defeated #9 – Miyoko Kusaka (3-4) via Unanimous Decision
#8 – Yukiko Seki (10-20) defeated #6 – Sachiko Yamamoto (8-6-1) via Unanimous Decision

Also on the card:

5th ranked Flyweight, Ayaka Hamasaki (5-0) defeated Mizuki Inoue (2-1) via Unanimous Decision
Yuko Oya (6-2) defeated Akiko “Betiko” Naito (6-12) via Split Decision
Emi Tomimatsu (3-4) defeated Celine Haga (1-9) via Unanimous Decision
Rina Tomita (4-5) defeated Anna Saito (1-8) via Technical Submission (Armbar) at 4:24 of round one.

—Upcoming Fights—

9-16 Sarah “Cheesecake” Moras (1-0) makes her return to the cage to face off with “The Lady Dragon”, Sy Jewett (2-0) at Aggression MMA 8.

9-17 Liz Carreiro (5-7) takes on a yet to be announced opponent at KOTC: “Apocalypse”.
