Breast Cancer Awareness Month

WMMA Today gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.


– The final results from the 2011 ADCC World Championships from Nottingham, England are as follows:

Under 60kg
GOLD: Krya Gracie (Brazil)

GOLD: Gabi Garcia (Brazil)
SILVER: Hannette Staack (Brazil)

– The 2011 FILA World Grappling Championships will take place this weekend in Belgrade, Serbia. The women representing “Team USA” are MMA standouts Lisa Ward-Ellis (50kg), Tara LaRosa (60kg) and Shayna Baszler (65kg).

9-23 Cassie Rodish (1-3) defeated Mariah Johnson (0-5) via TKO in round one at MCC 36: “Back in Action”.

9-23 Late replacement, Tonya Evinger (9-6) defeated Anita Rodriguez (4-2) via rear-naked choke at 1:37 of round one at XFL: “Rumble on the River 5”.

9-24 Due to an injury to Jasminka Cive, her fight vs Sandra Jursova at Braunauer: “Fight Night 1” was postponed.

9-24 Nohime Dennisson (1-1) defeated Lynae Lovato (0-1) via unanimous decision at United: MMA Bash and

9-24 10th ranked Super Flyweight, Jessica Eye (4-1) defeated a very game Casey Noland (3-2) via split decision at Bellator 51.

—Upcoming Fights—

10-1 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and BlackEye Promotions will be doing their part to help find a cure as they present, BlackEye Promotions 5: “Breast Cancer Beatdown”. This event takes place at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher, NC, however if you can’t make it there, you can purchase it at GoFightLive for only $10. A portion of all ticket sales, merchandise and PPV sales will be donated to, “It Ain’t Chemo,” a charity organization in Las Vegas, Nevada that directly supplies cancer patients from across the United States with comfort items, advice and emotional support.

10-1 Freestyle Cage Fighting will also be doing their part in the battle against breast cancer as they present, FCF 49: “Fight Strong for the Cure”. The all-female event takes place at the Firelake Casino in Shawnee Oklahoma, with a portion of the proceeds going to help fund mammogram’s for women who qualify, but can’t afford them, through Oklahoma’s, “Take Charge!” program.
