Amanda Lucas locks on fight ending rear-naked choke

WMMA Today gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

—Weekend Results—

10-28 Lauren “The Pirate” Taylor (4-0) picked up her second title by defeating Julia Griffin (2-3) for the vacant Alaska Cage Fighting 145-pound Women’s Championship at ACF: “Tribute to Veterans”. The end would come via TKO stoppage at 4:26 of round two. Taylor now holds titles for both the ACF and AFC.

10-28 9th ranked Bantamweight, Vanessa Porto (13-4) scored her second win in 2011 by defeating previously unbeaten Jennifer Maia (4-1-1) via technical submission (armbar) at 3:55 of round two at Kumite MMA Combate.

10-29 Amanda “Powerhouse” Lucas’ (3-1) second trip to the Land of the Rising Sun was just as impressive as her first, this time securing a rear-naked choke victory over Mika “Hari” Harigai (6-25-1) at Deep: “Cage Impact 2011”. After trading punches, Lucas took the fight to the mat, where she easily maneuvered into mount, then dropped a barrage of punches on the helpless Hari, before sinking in the fight ending choke at 4:32 of the first round.

10-29 Hannah Stephens (1-0) won her professional debut by defeating Helena Martin (0-3) via rear-naked choke at 1:35 of the third round at KnuckleUp: “Eclipse” and

10-29 Katalina Malungahu (1-0) kept her knockout streak in tact (3 in amateur, 1 in pro) by defeating previously unbeaten “Vicious” Val Barney (5-1) via TKO in round one at BCP: “Cage Wars 10”.

11-5 Finnish star, Maiju “Mai” Kujala (6-3) faces off with once-beaten Spanish prospect Karla Benitez (6-1, 1NC) at Cage 17: “Northern Storm”.
