Felice Herrig faces off against Carla Esparza at XFC 15: “Tribute”

Posted: November 30, 2011 in Uncategorized

XFC 15: “Tribute” takes place on December 2nd at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida and features a co-main event between Felice “Lil Bulldog” Herrig and 10 ranked, Carla Esparza. HDNet will televise this event LIVE starting at 9pm EST.

Herrig (5-3) began her career in 2009 with two very close split decision losses, however since that time she has won five of six and is currently riding a two-fight win streak. In March of this year, she defeated Andrea Miller via a first round TKO and in her last outing she scored a unanimous decision victory over Nicdali Calanoc and while the bout itself was very entertaining, it was the weigh-in face-off that had all the WMMA community abuzz (see video below). Esparza (5-3), a two-time All-American wrestler at Menlo College, began her career in 2010 and rattled off three straight wins before stepping in on just a few days notice to face number 1 ranked Megumi Fujii in the opening round of the Bellator 115-pound tournament. Esparza was very competitive in this bout before succumbing to an armbar in the second round. She would then win back-to-back bouts before facing number 2 ranked Jessica Aguilar in her last bout and in what many have called the female “Fight of the Year”, she would lose a very close split decision. Now, she’ll look to rebound against Herrig, in what could be a potential “FotY” candidate itself.
