WMMA Today gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.


–  Voting for the 2011 Fan Favorite Female Mixed Martial Artist Award is still on-going. The nominees are Jessica Aguilar, Marloes Coenen, Alexis Davis, Megumi Fujii, Sarah Kaufman, Sara McMann, Roxanne Modafferi, Ronda Rousey, Christiane “Cyborg” Santos and Miesha Tate. 12-15  After a two-year layoff due to injuries, Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña (3-0) returned to her winning ways by submitting Rachael Swatez (4-3) with a guillotine choke in the second round at Conquest of the Cage.

12-17  Lacey “The Ladie” Schuckman (7-4) became the new ROF 125-pound Young Guns Champion by defeating Michelle “Bobcat” Blalock (1-1) via a guillotine at 1:02 of the second round at Ring of Fire 42: “Who’s Next?”.

12-17  Jenn “Lil Ice” Berg missed weight and her bout with Stephanie “The Scrapper” Skinner at Proving Grounds: “The Road to Redemption” was canceled.

12-17  Kyane “The Pepper” Hampton (3-5) defeated Britany “Kid Lightning” Nipper (0-4) at Don’t Blink: “Border Wars 2″ and

12-17  Vanessa Reinsch (1-1) defeated Vanessa Schulze (0-1) via rear-naked choke in round one at FAA: “We Love MMA 2”.

12-17  Strikeforce Featherweight Champion, Christaine “Cyborg” Santos (11-1) demolished 2nd ranked Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka (12-2) via a :16 TKO at Strikeforce: “Melendez vs Masvidal”. After the bout Cyborg was asked about potential challengers and her thoughts on fast rising superstar, Ronda Rousey. “I’m ready for a fight with her,” Santos said. “I think she talks too much, but she can keep training, and when she’s ready, I’m ready, anytime, anywhere.”

12-17  Jewels Lightweight (115-lbs) Queen Champion Ayaka Hamasaki made a successful defense of her title and Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama kept her unbeaten record intact by winning twice in one night to become the first Jewels Featherweight (106-lbs) Queen Champion at Jewels: “17th Ring”.
