Ashley Cummins wins first ever female bout in WV

“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

—Weekend Results—

1-27 In what was the “Fight of the Night” at TWC: “Impact”, Julia Avila (1-0) won her pro debut over Marion Reneau (1-1) via unanimous decision.

1-28 Kyoko Kimura (1-0-1) and Mizuho Sato (6-5-1) fought to a draw at Pancrase: “Progress Tour 1”.

1-28 History was made at NAAFS: “Caged Fury 16” as Ashley “Smashley” Cummins (2-0) and Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto (2-4) became the first women to compete in a mixed martial arts event in the state of West Virginia. The ladies wouldn’t disappoint either and in a very close hard fought bout, it was Cummins picking up the victory via unanimous decision.

1-29 In Porto Seguro, Bahia, Brazil, “Pink Fight MMA”, Brazil’s first all-female mixed martial arts promotion, held their inaugural event. The results were as follows:
Kalindra Faria (3-3-1) defeats Elisabete Tavares (4-3-1) via unanimous decision
Juliana Aguiar (5-3) defeats Weyde Ventura (1-2) via unanimous decision
Aline Serio (2-2) defeats Mylla Torres (1-2) via KO at :27 of round 1
Hérica Tiburcio (2-0) defeats Alessandra Silva (2-7) via unanimous decision
Cristiane Schmitz (1-0) defeats Rosana “Chun-Li” Albuquerque (1-1) via TKO at 2:56 of round 3
Kaka Naja (1-0) defeats Antonia “Maguila Gorilla” Deize (0-2) via unanimous decision
Jennifer Maia (5-1-1) defeats Tatiane Aguiar (0-1) via armbar at 1:19 of round 2
Vanessa Barbosa (2-0) defeats Jenifer Klieger (0-2) via unanimous decision.
