“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.


– Invicta FC added a 12th bout to their already stacked inaugural event by announcing that unbeaten rising star and number 3 ranked Super Flyweight, Cat “Alpha” Zingano will move back up to the Bantamweight division to face Anita “El Tigre” Rodriguez. Invicta FC 1 takes place on April 28th in Kansas City, Kansas.

—Weekend Results—

3-9 The bout between Maiju “Mai” Kujala and Juliana Carneiro Lima at RFC 1 was scrapped.

3-9 In a heavyweight battle at Steelfist Fight Night 6, it was Rachel “The Riot” Kemker (1-1) defeating Jenna “Harley” Bernick (0-2) via TKO in round 1.

3-10 Darla Harris (2-0) remained undefeated as she scored an exciting KO victory over Lisa Jeanson (1-2) at 5-seconds into the third round at Army vs Marines 3.

3-10 At Pink Fight 2, 8th ranked Bantamweight Vanessa Porto (14-4) picked up the PF 132-pound title by defeating Luana Teixeira (1-2) via KO in round 1. Kalindra Faria (4-3-1) claimed the PF 121-pound belt by defeating Aline Sério (2-3) via unanimous decision. In other action, Jenifer Araujo (1-3) defeated Rayane Fortinha (0-1) via TKO in round 2, Michele Dayana (1-0) defeated Vanessa Barbosa (2-1) via TKO in round 1, KaKa Naja (2-0) defeated Chris Silva (0-1) via rear-naked choke in round 1, Fabiana Pereira Santos (2-0) defeated Tatiana Aguiar (0-2) via armbar in round 1 and Hérica Thiburcio (3-0) defeated Cyrlania Souza (0-1) via armbar in round 1.

3-11 On just a few days notice, Sanja Sucevic (3-1) made the most of the opportunity by defeating previously unbeaten Lena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova (8-1) via rear-naked choke at 2:28 of the second stanza at SFL 1 in India.

3-11 In her retirement bout at Pancrase Progress Tour 3, 10th ranked Flyweight, “Windy” Tomomi (17-14-1) lost to Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka (12-7) via a second round armbar. In the other women’s bout, Shino VanHoose (3-0) remained unbeaten by defeating Kimie “Sakura” Okada (0-6-1) via armbar in round 1.

—Upcoming Fights—

3-16 The first bout of the Cage Warriors 125-pound 4-woman tournament takes place at CW: Fight Night 4 and pits 5th ranked Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff (9-4-1) against top Brazilian prospect, Jennifer Maia (5-1-1). The second bout of the tournament is scheduled for May and features a matchup between 2nd ranked Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton and 6th ranked Aisling “The Bash” Daly. The finals are currently set for the Fall with the winner not only being crowned the Cage Warriors champion, but also considered as the top 125-pound fighter in the world.

3-17 Returning to the cage just a month after suffering her first loss, Lina “Lynx” Eklund (1-1) meets Fran Vanderstukken (0-0) at Staredown 6 and

3-17 Unbeaten Jasminka Cive (4-0) battles pro boxer turned mixed martial artist Eva Henesová (0-0) at Liechtensteiner Fight Night 2012.
