“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

—Weekend Results—

5-5   Kinberly Novaes (2-1) scored her second win in a row over late replacement Jessica “Batstaka” Andrade (0-1) via TKO at 4:42 of the second round at Nitrix 11 in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

5-6   Melissa “Real” Steele (1-3) picked up her first professional win with a hard fought unanimous decision over Katie Casimir (1-1) at Long Beach Fight Night 14.

5-6   The hunter became the hunted as Scotland’s Joanne “Cyborginho” Calderwood (2-0) used her superior ground game to defeat Lena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova (8-2) at Super Fight League 3 in New Delhi, India. Calderwood would win the bout via unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the fight 30-26. (Ovchynnikova lost a point in the second round for grabbing the fence)

—Upcoming Fights—

5-12   Monica Lovato (5-2) returns to the cage after a year-and-half layoff to battle Sarah “Too Sweet” Alpar (2-1) for the inaugural KOTC 125-pound belt at KOTC: Nightmare.

5-12   World champion kickboxer Marta Chojnoska (0-0) makes her pro MMA debut against Paulina “Pika” Suska (1-3) at KSW 19 and

5-12   Women’s Fighting Championship, an all-women’s promotion, stages their inaugural event that features a 105-pound championship bout between 10th ranked Diana “Dynamite” Rael (3-2) and Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto (2-4). In another pro Atomweight bout, Stephanie “The Scrapper” Skinner (1-3) meets Darla “Train Wreck” Harris (2-0). Eight amateur bouts make up the rest of the card.
