Ronda Rousey Defends Strikeforce Title at Strikeforce: Rousey vs Kaufman

Invicta Fighting Championships announced the full 13 bout fight card for their third show which takes place at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS on Saturday, October 6. The main event features the top two ranked Atomweights as undefeated Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama (8-0) meets Jessica Penne (9-1) for the first-ever Invicta FC title. The co-main event is a number one contenders bout in the Bantamweight division between Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler (14-7) and Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio. The winner will face Sara McMann at an upcoming Invicta event for the inaugural Bantamweight championship.

—Weekend Results—

August 17 –  5th ranked Flyweight Jessica “Evil” Eye (8-1) used her ever improving standup and solid takedown defense to defeat Angela Magana (11-5) at NAAFS: “Rock-N-Rumble 6″. The bout went to a decision with all three judges scoring it 30 x 27 for Eye.

August 18 –  Kinberly Novaes (4-1) picked up her fourth win in a row, as well as the Nitrix FC 55kg Championship belt by defeating Chayani Mendes (0-1) via a hard fought Split Decision at NCF 12.

August 18 –  On the undercard of Strikeforce: “Rousey vs Kaufman”, Muay Thai sensation Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie (3-2) out-struck number 1 ranked Featherweight Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka (12-2, 1NC) and in a Fight of the Year candidate, 5th ranked Bantamweight Miesha “Cupcake” Tate (13-3) recovered from a head-kick knockdown to submit 8th ranked Julie “Fireball” Kedzie (16-11) at 3:28 of the final round.

In the main event it was business as usual as Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion ”Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (6-0) picked up her sixth first round armbar submission victory by defeating number one contender and former champion Sarah Kaufman (15-2) in :54 seconds. After her victory, Rousey called out “Cris Cy-roid” and challenged her to come down to 135 to settle their feud once and for all. (see video)
