Rin Nakai advances to the finals of the Bantamweight Queen of Pancrase tournament

“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.


Invicta FC 3 added a 14th bout to their already stacked fight card as it was announced that Kaitlin Young (7-6-1) would meet fellow striker Sarah Kaufman (15-2). Both fighters will be looking to get back on the winning track after suffering submission setbacks in their most recent bouts, Young to Liz Carmouche in July and Kaufman to Ronda Rousey in August. It was also announced that Ediane “India” Gomes (8-2) replaces injured Tay Stratford to meet Katalina Malungahu (2-0) and Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (3-2-1) now takes on “Killer” Kim Conner-Hamby (4-0), who replaces Cat Zingano. Zingano (6-0) was let out of her Invicta contract so that she could sign with Strikeforce. She will make her promotional debut on September 29th against Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes (7-2) at Strikeforce: “Melendez vs Healy”.

—Weekend Results—

September 1 –  Former Valkyrie Open-Weight Champion Rin Nakai (12-0-1) defeated Mayumi “Ultra Benkei” Aoki (6-9) via TKO at 3:45 of the second round in the semi-final of the Bantamweight Queen of Pancrase tournament at Pancrase Progress Tour 10. The participants in the other semi-final bracket have yet to be announced.

September 1 –  Eeva Siiskonen (1-0) was successful in her pro MMA debut as she defeated Myriem el Banouti (3-3) at Carelia Fight 8.

September 7 –  Kristen “The Automatic” Gatz (0-0) makes her pro debut against Jessica “The Ragin'” Rakoczy (0-3) at TPF 14: “Validation”.

September 8 –  Emily Kagan (0-0) makes her pro debut against Lynae Lovato (0-1) at Jackson’s MMA Series 9.

September 8 –  After an amazing amateur career which saw her compile an 11-0-1 record, Tamikka “Boom Boom” Brents (0-0) now makes her pro debut against 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in wrestling Randi Miller (1-0) at SCS 13: “Blood Feud”.

September 8 –  Kate “Shakedown” Bloomfield (0-1) looks for her first win as a pro as she takes on debutting Jozette “Head Busta” Cotton (0-0) at Disorderly Conduct: “Football & Fights”.

September 8 –  Raquel “Rocky” Pennington (2-1) travels to Hawaii to face-off with hometown favorite Raquel “Rocky” Pa’aluhi (2-3) at Destiny NA KOA and

September 8 –  Pro boxer Duda “The Cameleon” Yankovich (0-0) makes her pro MMA debut against Luana Teixeira (1-3) at Bitetti Combat.
