“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.


At the UFC on Fox 5 press conference, Dana White presented Ronda Rousey with the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title and announced that she will make her first title defense against Liz Carmouche on February 23, 2013 at UFC 157. The bout will headline the PPV and mark the first time in its 19-year history that females have competed inside the world-famous Octagon.

—Weekend Results—

December 7 –  There was no doubt who the victor was this time around as Julia Berezikova (7-3) submitted Karla Benitez (7-4, 1NC) via Armbar at 1:42 of round 2 at SFL 12. Berezikova also won their previous bout in May, via a contenious Split Decision.

December 7 –  Kinberly Novaes (5-1) picked up her fifth win in a row with a hard fought Split Decision win over “Karol Mutante” (0-1) at Iron Fight Combat 2.

December 7 –  In a highly entertaining bout at XFC 21, former boxer Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink (2-1) outstruck heavy handed “Hurricane” Heather Clark (5-3) in route to a Unanimous Decision victory.

December 7 –  Jessica “Evil” Eye (9-1) made an emphatic statement to the rest of the division by choking out archrival Zoila “Warrior Princess” Gurgel (12-2) via a Standing Arm-Triangle Choke at 58-seconds of round one Bellator 83. The win is Eye’s sixth in a row, fourth of 2012, and should propel her to the top of the Unified Rankings Flyweight Division.

December 8 –  DEEP’s Openweight Women’s Champion Amanda “Powerhouse” Lucas (5-1) showcased her improved striking as she defeated Yuiga (3-6) via Majority Decision in a non-title bout at DEEP: “Cage Impact 2012”.

December 14 –  Super Fight League will crown their inagurial Female Flyweight Champion as Colleen “The Beautiful Disaster” Schneider (3-4) meets Sanja Sučević (4-1) at SFL 13. This event will be streamed LIVE starting at 10:30am ET on SFL’s Youtube channel.

December 14 –  Yasmine Reguera-Gonzales (0-0) and Lisa Lamb (0-0) make their pro debuts at Legacy 16.

December 14 –  Due to an injury suffered by Michelle Gutierrez, Felice “Lil Bulldog” Herrig (7-4) now rematches late replacement “Little” Patricia Vidonic (7-3) at Bellator 84. The bout will be part of the undercard and streamed LIVE on Spike.com starting at 6pm ET.

    Dana White is maken a joke of the wmma by what he has done.. I hope Carmouche beats her He has set her up to be the UFC the next Gina… And to think he is gonna have her and Tate coach men, as if we dont have enough talented fights in wmma… He wants to sell sex not mma… The wmma will blow up and I hope Showtime or one of the networks beat him to the punch… As tough coaches we need them to open the weight devisions it makes to much sence to promote the wmma…
