“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

—News—

–  It didn’t take long for Cris “Cyborg” Santos to find a new home after being released by the UFC this week. On Friday, Tito Ortiz announced that his client had signed with Invicta Fighting Championships and would be back in action at IFC 5 against Ediane “India” Gomes. Cyborg hasn’t fought since December 17, 2011 where she was given a one-year suspension from the CSAC for a positive steroid test following her bout against Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka. Julia “The Jewel” Budd, Gomes original opponent, will now face Fiona Muxlow. IFC 5 takes place on April 5th at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, MO.

–  The UFC announced that the promotions second ever female fight would feature former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champ Miesha “Cupcake” Tate taking on unbeaten rising star “Alpha” Cat Zingano at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale on April 13th in Las Vegas, NV. It was also announced that Sara McMann and Alexis “Alley-Gator” Davis had been added to the growing women’s bantamweight roster. No word on opponents or date of their debuts.

February 16 –  Amy Adam (1-1) evened her pro record with a verbal submission at 1:17 of the first round over Belinda “The Bellringer” Sedgwick (0-2) at Brace 19 and

February 16 –  Thea Wolfe (1-0) was successful in her pro debut by defeating Sarah “The Midget” Lagerstrom (0-1) via unanimous decision at CageSport 23.

February 22 –  Coming off very competitive defeats, both Pearl Gonzalez (0-1) and Suzie “La China” Montero (1-1) look to bounce back into the win column at XFC 22: “Crossing the Line”. This event will be televised on AXS.tv starting at 10pm ET.

February 23 –  Bec Hyatt’s training partner, Shauna “Little Thunder” Carew (1-0) goes for her second win in a row when she meets Christina Tatnell (0-1) at Valor 4: “Supremacy”.

February 23 –  Kalindra Faria (7-3-1) faces unbeaten Aline Sattelmayer (2-0) at Detonic Fight.

February 23 –  Katharina Albinus (1-1) and Hatice “Turkish Delight” Ozyurt (1-1) square off at No Compromises FC.

February 23 –  Edwina White (0-0) makes her pro debut against Kate “Shakedown” Bloomfield (0-2) at DC MMA: “Heartbreakers” and

February 23 –  History will be made when “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (6-0) defends her UFC Women’s Bantamweight title against Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche (8-2) at UFC 157: “Rousey vs Carmouche”. This bout marks the first time in the promotions 19-year history that a female fight will take place inside the world-famous Octagon. UFC 157: “Rousey vs Carmouche” takes at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and can be purchased on PPV.
