“Women’s MMA Today” gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.

—News—

–  Over 50 female fighters made the track to the Palace Station Hotel in Vegas on Monday 15th to tryout for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show. The tryouts were divided into three phases: (1) grappling, (2) striking and (3) interview session. Those making the final cut will begin taping in May with the series moving from FX to the soon-to-launched FOX Sports 1 channel for a September 4 debut.

—Weekend Results—

April 19 –  Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink (3-1) scored a hard fought unanimous decision victory over Brianna “The Bull” Van Buren (1-1) at XFC 23: “Louisville Slugfest”. The win sets up a title bout against Angela Magana at an upcoming XFC event.

April 19 –  Maria Hougaard Djursaa (4-4) made a triumphant return to the cage with a TKO victory over Jorina “JoJo” Baars (1-3) at European MMA 5. The end came after the second round when the cageside physician stopped the bout due to a cut.

April 19 –  In a heavyweight contest at Steelfist Fight Night 15: “Caged Fury”, Heather “Ginja Ninja” George (2-0) stopped Jenna “Harley” Bernick (0-3) via TKO at 24-seconds of round one.

April 20 –  Amber “The Apex Predator” Stautzenberger (3-1) picked up her third consecutive win of 2013 with a unanimous decision over late replacement “Heartless” Glena Avila (2-2) at DFC 15: “Spring Brawl”.

April 20 –  In what has to be the KO of the Year thus far, Vanessa Guimarães knocked out Bruna Paiffer with a devastating knee at 1:44 of round 1 at Strikers HC 25.

April 20 –  Paloma Fabrykant (3-0) kept her unbeaten record in tact with a first round armbar submission of Silvana Peralta (0-1) at Real World Fights and

April 21 –  Kikuyo Ishikawa (9-3) got a measure of revenge over Miyoko Kusaka (3-6) via TKO at 1:43 of round one at Pancrase: “Sakaguchi Dojo vs Pancrase”. Kusaka had upset Ishikawa back in 2010.

—Upcoming Bouts—

April 26 –  Lena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova (8-2) looks to end her two-fight skid when she meets Fathia Mostafa (0-0) at SFL 16. This event will be streamed live starting at 10:30am ET on SFL YouTube channel.

April 27 –  Sara McMann (6-0) continues her climb towards the top of the Bantamweight division against Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff (10-4-1) at UFC 159. This bout is part of the preliminary card and will be televised live starting at 8pm ET on FX.

April 27 –  Two of Poland’s top Bantamweights clash when Agnieszka Niedzwiedz (2-0) faces off with Klaudia Apenit (1-1) at MMA Attack 3 and

April 27 –  The only woman to ever defeat Cris Cyborg, Erica Paes (1-1) returns to the cage after an 8-year hiatus to take on Gisele Maciel (1-1) at Gringo Super Fight. Special guest referee will be none other than Cris Cyborg.
