Press Release – The UFC organization announced that it would feature its first-ever women’s match-up in Asia at UFC FIGHT NIGHT MACAO: BISPING vs. LE on Saturday, 23 August. Russia’s Milana Dudieva is set to take on American Elizabeth Phillips in a women’s bantamweight fight at the Cotai Arena in The Venetian Macao.
Dudieva (10-3 professional MMA record, fighting out of Alagir, Russia), who will be making her UFC debut, and Phillips (4-2, fighting out of Spokane, Washington), a former Washington State Amateur MMA champion, are bringing a combined 10 first round finishes to the Octagon® in what promises to be a supercharged clash between two division up-and-comers.
“I’m excited for this event at The Venetian Macao and making history with the first UFC women’s fight in Asia,” commented Dana White, UFC President. “The women’s division has become very popular around the world, and Ronda Rousey has become arguably the biggest star in the sport. This women’s bout is an amazing addition to an already stellar card.”
“The Venetian Macao has established a reputation for itself as the place to be for experiencing trailblazing events,” said Olaf Gueldner, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Sands China Ltd. “We’re pleased to be hosting another first for Macao and for Asia with this exciting women’s bout at UFC Fight Night Macao. One-of-a-kind events like these are part of our company’s multi-tiered entertainment strategy, helping raise the profile of Macao as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
Undefeated bantamweight champion and Olympian, Ronda Rousey, who recently won the ESPY’s 2014 award for top female athlete, will be attending UFC Fight Night Macao. Ronda’s success and global appeal has helped grow the sport of women’s mixed martial arts and in turn the growth of the sport in Asia. “I am so excited to be coming back to Asia, and so proud to be here as the UFC reaches another incredible milestone in women’s MMA,” commented Ronda. Joined by other guest fighters, Ronda will be taking part in a variety of activities across fight week in Macao in August.
