Ronda-Rousey-Vs-Cat-Zingano

Finally, “Alpha” Cat Zingano (9-0, 2-0 UFC) and bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (10-0, 4-0 UFC) will meet inside the Octagon. The bout is set for January 3rd and will serve as the co-main event at UFC 182: “Jones vs Cormier” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After defeating Miesha Tate via TKO in April 2013, Zingano was set to coach opposite Rousey in ‘The Ultimate Fighter 18’, however, she was forced to withdraw from the show due to a serious knee injury. Personal tragedy would also keep Zingano sidelined until her return last month at UFC 178 where she reclaimed her number-one contender status via a come from behind TKO victory over Amanda Nunes.

Rousey has successfully defended her UFC championship four times, defeating Liz Carmouche, Miesha Tate, Sara McMann and most recently Alexis Davis via KO in just 16 seconds at UFC 175 in July. In her 10 victories, only Tate has made it past the first round, succumbing in round three to an armbar.

Once the bout had been announced, Rousey took to Instagram:
“Every ounce of respect I have for her is going to be poured into the effort to end her undefeated streak. Real champions don’t want belts, they want to test themselves against the best the world has to offer. On Jan 3rd two champions will be fighting and I’m going to show Cat what the best in the world is. I genuinely hope that Cat, the fans, and I all walk away unscathed and fulfilled that night. But fights are chaotic – you never know. 😉 I won’t say “good luck” but rather “good skill” to Cat. Get ready for the fight of your life.”

Ronda will dominate once again….dispatch Bethe Corriea next…tap out HH after that, give Sara one more chance, then collect the biggest payday ever against the Borg…and retire 15-0 and set for life….Queen of queens.

Do you think Cat will do any better than the others against Ronda? So far Carmouche has given her the most trouble.

  3. Andy says:

Brendan, I do think Cat is physically stronger by a considerable margin than any other fighter Ronda has yet faced. Plus Cat is very athletic and is has a ton of heart. The problem for her is that she is a bit slower than Rousey and doesn’t have Ronda’s extraordinary technique and unmatched experience. To answer your question, I think the best Cat can hope for is to somehow make it to the 2nd round and hope it’s an off night for Ronda, and anything could happen. That said, unfortunately, I can’t see Cat making it past the 3 minute mark. And I really like Cat.

Ya know, Andy…I like Cat alot too but you are right…a slow starter is just playing to Ronda’s royal flush. 3 minutes…good estimate!

  5. Andy says:

Hey Mike, I agree with you across the board on Ronda, except I think she’ll fight a few more fights even after she hits the 15-0 mark. Couple of reasons – 1) I do think a new generation of immensely talented women will begin to make their mark in WMMA before Ronda’s ready to hang them up — and her competitive spirit just won’t allow her to leave the sport until she vanquishes the “new breed” of fighters coming through. 2) Ronda is already the highest paid women athlete in the world, and she’s only going to make more money as time goes on. She can’t retire simply because of the sheer amount of money she would stand to lose by doing so. Finally, when she does retire — I see her ultimately taking over from Dana as UFC President. She has all the talent and qualifications to do it.
