WMMA Today gets you caught up on the week that was and the week that will be in women’s MMA.


–  With its current contract with Showtime set to expire in February, Dana White announced that a new deal had been reached and that Strikeforce would continue airing on the premium cable network. The details of the deal were not disclosed, however White said an official announcement could come as early as this week.

–  NAAFS: “Eve of Destruction 2″ takes place on December 17th at the Medina County Community Center in Medina, Ohio and features an exciting evening of all female amateur action!

—Weekend Results—

12-11  Anna Zucchelli (1-1) stopped Helena Martin (0-4) via TKO-Doctor Stoppage at the end of round one at KAYO-MMA 6 in Watford, UK. In semi-pro action, Rachael McMillan also scored a first round TKO victory over Laura Clarke.

—Upcoming Fights—

12-15  After a two-year layoff due to injuries, Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña (2-0) returns to face Rachael Swatez (4-2) at Conquest of the Cage.

12-17  Strikeforce Featherweight Champion, Christaine “Cyborg” Santos (10-1) defends her title for the first time in eighteen months against 2nd ranked Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka (12-1) at Strikeforce: “Melendez vs Masvidal”. This event will be televised LIVE on Showtime starting at 10:30pm EST.

12-17  Michelle “Bobcat” Blalock (1-0) defends her ROF 125-pound Young Guns title against Lacey “The Ladie” Schuckman (6-4) at Ring of Fire 42: “Who’s Next?”. This event will be streamed LIVE at GoFightLive and can be purchased for $15.

12-17  Jenn “Lil Ice” Berg (2-4) takes on Stephanie “The Scrapper” Skinner (0-3) at Proving Grounds: “The Road to Redemption”.

12-17  Kyane “The Pepper” Hampton (1-5) battles Britany “Kid Lightning” Nipper (0-2) at Don’t Blink: “Border Wars 2” and

12-17  Jewels: “17th Ring” features 4th ranked Flyweight, Ayaka Hamasaki (5-0) defending her title against 5th ranked Seo Hee Ham (9-4). In 106-pound action, #1 ranked Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama (5-0) faces 2nd ranked Kikuyo Ishikawa (6-2) and 4th ranked Misaki Takimoto (14-12-4) faces 5th ranked Yukiko Seki (10-20). The winners will then fight to crown a champion.
