Following her impressive title defense against Miesha Tate at UFC 168 on Saturday night, it was announced that bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey (8-0, 2-0 UFC) would return to the octagon sooner rather than later to face-off against fellow undefeated Olympian Sara McMann (7-0, 1-0 UFC).
The bout will headline UFC 170, which takes place on February 22nd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
“Dana approached me about this before the fight, but I’d taken such a long time off that I wanted to fight again soon,” said Rousey. “I don’t want to sit on the shelf. I’m in the best shape of my life, so it’s the perfect time to go back-to-back.”
McMann, an Olympic silver medalist in wrestling, made her octagon debut in April at UFC 159 and scored a first-round TKO over Shiela Gaff. She was then scheduled to fight Sarah Kaufman in August, but withdrew for undisclosed personal reasons.
